Our needle felting machine is in operation. We are very pleased with the finished product. We have had some vests made with some of the felted material, seen here on our daughter Jodi. Both black vests are 100% alpaca seconds (second quality fiber); the tan vest is 50% wool/50% angora seconds. The felt can be drapey or stiff depending on thickness and fiber type, and has a nice textured finish, resembling corduroy.

The list of potential uses for the needle felted batts is unlimited. Some suggested uses include vests, hats, mittens, slippers, boot liners, Christmas stockings, ornaments, Christmas tree skirts, blankets or lap throws, quilt batting, plant and tree rounds (put around plants instead of plastic to keep moisture in and weeds down), and craft applications too numerous to list.

The charge for felting is $4.00 per batt (plus initial processing costs - $5.50 per pound for wool or $8.20 per pound for exotics, incoming weight; for full pricing details, see our carding prices). Depending on the intended use of the finished yardage, the batt can be 8 ounces, 12 ounces, or 1 pound. The finished size of a felted piece is approximately 30 inches wide by 4 feet long, but batts can be joined at the ends for a continuous length of yardage.

A minimum amount of vegetation will give you a more desirable yard goods for garment items. As with any fiber we run through our carding machine, "excess" vegetaion is not acceptable.
